Psalm 11
Faith in the Lord's Righteousness
*Written by David.
*David is yet in another context of personal and national crisis. David has made up his mind to trust only in the Lord God.
Verse 1: God is the only refuge for His Righteous children. As a life principle, David sought refuge in the Lord God, from his enemies. David's counselors urged him to "flee as a bird to Your mountain", means for David to run and hide. But David refused. David regarded the Lord God as a much more secure refuge. If we first run to God as our refuge, He will save us in whatever problem we are facing.
Verse 2: Many commentators consider verses 1b-3 to be the words of David's friends. The world around us will try to destroy us, because we are not of this world. The people of the world hate christian's. The people of the world hate christian's because the light of Jesus in them shines light on the sin in their lives. DO NOT RUN AWAY AND HIDE!!!
Verse 3: Foundations, is a metaphor for the order of society in the nation of Israel. David's counselors were faint hearted that it all was going to be destroyed. But David believed in God's deliverance.
Verses 4-7: It is a repeated theme in the Psalms that God see's and eventually punishes all evil, regardless of now unseen and unpunished it may appear to be.
Verse 4: God see's everything. There is nothing hid from God.
Verse 5: "His soul hates", means God hates sin that people do.
Verse 6: Brimstone is often associated with judgement. This expresses the dreadfulness and horribleness of their punishment.
Verse 7: "Beholds": The reward of a righteous person is face to face fellowship with God.
*God loves righteousness. God hates sin.
