Psalm 53
Folly of the godless and the Restoration of Israel
*Written by David.
*"Folly" means, lack of good sense; evilness; wickedness(sin); foolish act or idea.
*"godless" means, believing that God does not exist; having no reverence or respect for God.
*"Restoration" means, an act of restoring back to a better condition.
*Psalm 53, is nearly identical to Psalm 14.
Verse 1: "Fool" means, someone who disregards God's Word, ignores God, and denies that God exist.
Verses 1-4: Description of those who reject God and His people.
Verse 5: Danger to those who reject God and His peope.
Verse 6: Deliverance of God's people.
Verse 1: Someone who does not believe in God is of all mankind most deceived.
Verses 2-3: David speaks of how sinful the godless are.
Verse 4: "Workers of iniquity" means, wicked sinful one's. "No Knowledge" means, the wicked do not know who God is, because they deny Him. "Who eat up my people" means, that the wicked came up against God's people to destroy them. "Do not call upon God" means, the wicked do not believe in God. When the wicked do evil against God's people, they are also attacking God. It is as if the wicked are blind and deaf to the things of God. This means that the wicked do not see or hear the things of God. To deny that God exist, is foolish. Psalm 14:1 "The fool has aid in his/her heart there is no God".
Verse 5: The wicked enemy coming up against Israel was suddenly terrified and defeated. "Scattered the bones" means, the enemies dead were scattered all over. The people of the world(wicked sinners), who deny God, have no future to look to. Unless they repent, their fate will be hell for eternity. Those who do not trust in God, terror will over come them in this world. The only people who can have peace in this world, are those who fully trust in God(His true righteous one's). God Himself will destroy the wicked.
Verse 6: "Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion", David is saying that Israel's deliverer would come out of Jerusalem. This could also be referring to the Messiah(Jesus) coming to completely deliver Israel. "When God brings back the captivity of His people, Israel", this could be referring to Israel becoming a nation.
