Assurance of God's Eternal Protection
*Written by David.
*Psalm 61, uses different words to describe God as our refuge and protection:
- Rock: God lifts us up higher than our enemy, verse 2.
- Shelter: God keeps us shielded from our enemy, verse 3.
- Tower: God guards us from our enemy, verse 3.
- Wings: God covers us with His protection, verse 4.
*Psalm 61, is filled with references to God's covenant relationship with Israel.
*In Psalm 61, David once again has a godly response to overwhelming and depressing times in his life.
*In Psalm 61, David begins with prayer and ends with praise.
*Psalm 61 outline:
- David's cry to God for help, verses 1-2
- David's confidence in God, verses 3-7.
- David's loyal commitment to God, verse 8.
"Cry", refers to David's praying. David was in deep distress. Once again his enemies had come up against him. No matter where David was, David cried out to God in prayer. David's hope and courage were failing. However, David chose to cry out in prayer to God. God was David's rock.
Verses 3-7:
David knew that God was is shelter and strong tower. David knew God would deliver him. David's true security was found in God alone. David remembered in times past how God delivered him from his enemies. Remembering this gave David hope in knowing that God would once again deliver him. God has built a hedge of protection around each one of His true righteous one's(true born again christian's). David placed his total confidence in God, his deliverer. "Heritage", refers to the benefits of being in a covenant relationship with God. David knew that as long as he was in a right relationship with God, God would deliver him. As long as we are in a right relationship with the Lord God, He is obligated to take care of us. It's when we are not in a right relationship with the Lord God, that He is not obligated to take care of us.
Verse 8: David would express his thanksgiving and praise to God daily for his prayers being answered. David promised daily obedience to God in thanking and praising Him.
*As true born again christian's, we should daily praise and thank the Lord.
*Remember, praising and thanking the Lord daily builds us up spiritually and usher's in VICTORY!!!
